The ACID Programme in the Cannes Film Festival

The ACID programm at the Cannes International Film Festival was created in 1993. Films are chosen by fifteen or so filmmakers, members of ACID, formerly programmed in Cannes or whose films were supported during the year. It screens nine feature films, fiction and documentary, chosen among hundreds of works from all around the world.
ACID filmmakers follow their love for a film and wish to give visibility to directors whose work is scarcely distributed, in order to facilitate a theatrical release.
Among authors discovered in ACID Cannes are Lucas Belvaux, Sébastien Betbeder, Serge Bozon, Djinn Carrénard, Vincent Dieutre, Rachid Djaïdani, Alain Gomis, Arnaud et Jean-Marie Larrieu, Hicham Lasri, Ursula Meier, Avi Mograbi, Yolande Moreau et Gilles Porte, Ioanis Nuguet, Nicolás Pereda, Pierre Schoeller, Claire Simon, Justine Triet…

ACID’s Cannes programme is a long-awaited meeting for distributors, film programmers and international festivals. It allows them to see films and for ACID to rely on the programmers’ feedback to prepare the releases.
The screenings, in the presence of ACID filmmakers and the films’ crews, are also open to the public and to high school students of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region.
The films shown in Cannes are then accompanied by ACID and its filmmakers in the various stages of the theatrical release (search for distributors / promotion / programming / organization of the Q&A’s / audience research).

ACID Cannes 2016 programme’s rerun will take place at he end of september at the Louxor in Paris, from october 2nd to 4th at the Comoedia in Lyon and in over fifteen venues in the Ile-de-France region in september-october.

ACID unveils its Cannes Selection

May 12th -21st

The ACID 2016 programme is based on eclecticism, in the image of the 14 filmmakers who chose the films. The nine feature films that have been selected are witnesses of the rustling of the world, thanks to a joyful diversity of approaches, productions, narrations and genres. Deadpan comedies, incredible destinies, paranoid anti-heroes, the films shatter the borders and make us step aside.

A major pattern is found in the composition of the programme : the singularity of the characters who cast off embedded stereotypes, be they the delicates, the dissimilars, the melancholics, the loners, and the eccentrics who have been given wise words, immutable will, fertile imagination, refreshing humor…

Faithful to its founding principles, ACID encourages emerging authors. This year, it features movies directed by Ludovic and Zoran Boukherma, Marielle Gautier, Hugo P. Thomas, Wissam Charaf, Sébastien Laudenbach and Jero Yun. But ACID also continues to support filmmakers that have already been programmed in the past, following their evolution or the renewal of their cinema, with directors such as Olivier Babinet, Sébastien Betbeder, Fabianny Deschamps, Emmanuel Parraud or Damien Manivel (whose short film « La Dame au Chien » was screened by ACID in Cannes in 2010)

As every year, these films have been picked out by other filmmakers, among which several directors of films screened in ACID Cannes 2015. It truly is a unique network, from where ACID draws all of its energy.

We’ll be happy to welcome you back in Cannes for this very exciting new edition !
